Apprenticeships offer a ladder of opportunity to all
Top 100 Employers National Apprenticeship Week, now in its tenth year, is taking place from the 6 – 10 March 2017 and during the Week the light will be shining on the ‘Ladder of Opportunity’ that apprenticeships bring.
Apprenticeships, now more than ever, offer a wider choice. They are available in 1,500 job roles across 170 industries – with over 28,000 vacancies live at any one time. And, with progression from intermediate, to advanced, higher and Degree apprenticeships they can provide a ladder of opportunity for many.
Employers value the competitive advantage and the business benefits apprenticeships can bring. Employer-led standards are defining the skills employers actually need and giving apprenticeships the mark of quality and esteem. There are now more than 1500 employers involved with 260 new apprenticeship standards (of which over 70 are higher and Degree Apprenticeships) and more than 180 new standards in development. The new apprenticeships are in a broad range of sectors from nuclear to fashion, law, banking and defence.
To illustrate progression and opportunity, National Apprenticeship Week will be looking back to the stories of people who were apprentices ten years ago so we can showcase how they have progressed in their chosen careers.
Ninety per cent of apprentices stay employed after their apprenticeship and it is these stories and personal journeys which will be highlighted during the Week.
